From ballerinas to b-boys -- that's what Groovaloo advertised, and that's what it delivered.

Eisenhower Auditorium shook and flashed as Groovaloo dancers played out their existence tales through their bodies Thursday night.

"It was executed beautifully, the choreography was beautiful, all the elements were excellent," said Penn State theater professor Steve Broadnax.

The indicate included 28 scenes, which told testimonies of the hardships and journeys of many of the dancers. However the scenes weren't stop-and-go -- they flowed into each other, and so did every of the dancers' stories. Chris Park, a student inside a Penn Express hip-hop class, claimed he was impressed by how nicely the dancers could correlate their dances with life tales and portray their personalities.

"It was indescribable, pretty awesome," Park (junior-actuarial science) claimed.

The dancers, quite a few of whom have performed with stars like Janet Jackson, Prince, P. Diddy and Missy Elliot, expressed testimonies from having parents who didn't comprehend their dreams to becoming shot within the back again and told they'd never walk again -- let alone dance.

But Steven "Boogieman" Stanton, a choreographer and dancer from Los Angeles, did dance again. He used a cane most from the display, but ultimately threw it aside to showcase his hip-hop talent.

"It was personal and true, and also you can't beat the truth," Broadnax stated.

Linzee Cho (freshman-elementary education), another hip hop student, claimed the show was "mind-blowing" and she thought the overall message was that nothing is impossible.

All through the demonstrate, the dancing was accompanied by spoken word poetry, narration and lights that followed the rhythm with the music. The set integrated elements like stairs, tables and graffiti portraits including the words "love," "hope," "truth" and "freestyle" -- the last of which was a popular theme and dance style within the show.

In reality, Broadnax idea the show's title ought to have included the phrase "freestyle" so faculty and students would have had a better idea of what it was about -- that way, he explained he thinks more men and women would have arrive.

"That was some in the best work I've observed here at Penn Express," he said. "Hip hop theatre is rare, you don't see it frequently."
